Jiacheng Sun is a scenic designer, properties designer and manager, painter, creator and explorer who was heading MFA Scenic Design program with assistships in 2024 Purdue University, West Lafayette. Expecting graduate to the Purdue University in 2027.

She obtained the Bachelor of Arts degree in the department of Theatre Design, Production, and Technology in the University of Illinois at Chicago spring 2024, as well as a Minor of Liberal-arts-science in Economics.

Sun follows a solid theoretical foundation, pure craftsmanship, and courageous heart that generates strong confidence and passion. In the individual and collaborative works she pursuit embodying the spirit of persevered passion and stamina and good at constantly exploring interests, capturing details, and potential in a major.

She has been working and studying at Studio Kloak as an active designer, learner and explorer. As her first in-depth experience with furniture design, she has been exploring and creating alongside in the summer 2024.

In her earlier years, she was keen to expand her interests in studying opera, dance, and broadcasting, which also brought her exposure to the stage. In 2016, she gained her initial exposure to and exploration of the stage by participating in two International Vocal Competitions and performing at Carnegie Hall’s Winners Concert. She performed Die-Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) opera-by Mozart; O mio babbino caro (Oh my dear Papa) opera-by Puccini. It was during that time that her interest in studying in the United States began to take root. In 2019 she worked as an internship at the Poly Theatre in Beijing to join the run crew of “An American in Paris” from Broadway Asia New York City. She attended the show “Proof” in the fall season in UChicago’s Windmill Drama. In 2023 Sun served as the Assistant Stage Manager for “Smart People”. In 2024 she was being scenic painter for two shows, and Head of prop in “Mary Shelley Presents Frankenstein”

In 2025 she works by Head of prop in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” “The Snow”. She will being scenic designer in the show of “GLORIA” and “Horse Girls” by expecting 2025. Amidst a journey of continuous exploration and learning, she has garnered numerous insightful transformations within her profession.
